Recruiting Volunteers
Finding the best volunteer for the position and the best position for the volunteer.

Remember your role as a recruiter. Success as an organization depends on reaching out to attract talented people with different backgrounds and experiences. Your purpose when recruiting is to provide a diverse pool of qualified people for volunteer positions.

Start be reviewing the position description. It should list specific re-quirements and expectations, and create a basis for discussion with po-tential candidates. Key elements to review are:

  • Purpose of position
  • Specific duties/responsibilities
  • Necessary qualifications
  • Available resources
  • Time commitment
  • Duration of position
  • Evaluation procedure.
Identify the benefits to the volunteer. Be specific about what the volunteer can gain. Benefits might include:
  • Satisfaction from helping
  • New skills or experience
  • New relationships
