Six Basic Steps in Volunteer Recruitment
1. Complete a list of all volunteer jobs available and needed.
2. Develop a list of possible recruits. Identify possible target groups where needed skills are likely to be found.
3. Contact potential volunteers, using the one-to-one committee, or mass media approaches.
4. Match potential volunteers to the available jobs.
5. Use volunteer position descriptions to place the volunteer.
6. Involve the new volunteer as soon as possible.
Don’t Use "Volunteer"
If you are using print materials to recruit volunteers, don’t include the word "volunteer" in a headline.
The Reason: Stereotypes about volunteering will block your message. Try using phrases such as, "get involved" or "become a part of...":
Or: Use the title of the volunteer position. Examples: "Be a Tutor" or "Drive People Happy".
